When Hillary Clinton accepted the Democratic nominee for president, she made much of the fact that she had cracked one of the “highest and hardest” glass ceilings. As of Feb. 2015, 39 women have served or are presently serving as a governor. Thirty-one women have ever been elected to the United State’s Senate. Of that number, 20 are presently serving.
More and more women are feeling the spark to seek public office, thanks in part to She Should Run, a nonpartisan organization that has been recruiting and encouraging females to pursue public service for the past seven years. Since 2009, the group has encouraged over 100,000 women to run for office.
